The Version of Me My Team Never Sees

Khaïry here.

I’ll open with something I don’t say out loud much. During COVID there was a stretch, close to a year, where I gave so much to clients Monday through Friday that by Saturday I couldn’t move. Freddy would ask me to take the kids to the park and I’d tell him to go without them, because I had nothing left. Nothing.

This week it’s just Amber and me, sitting with a set of questions we almost never answer honestly, at least not on a mic. The roles we carry, mother, wife, partner, founder, and what happens when they pull against each other.

We went rapid fire. What our kids think we actually do for work. The one thing for ourselves we refuse to give up. The version of us our own team has never seen. The last time each of us cried about work, and why.

Some of our answers surprised us both.

If you’re a woman building something serious, with kids or without, I think you’ll find yourself somewhere in this one. And I want your answers too. Drop them in the comments. Let’s normalize this conversation.
